CONSERVATIVE A claimed a place in the CD McAllister Trophy final by knocking out Chester and District League leaders St Werburgh's United.

After receiving a 21-point start, Cons soon got to grips with the tie as Eddie Jenkins defeated Gerry Byewater by 73 points to put Cons 94 up.

Steve Williams got the better of Colin Jones on the black to increase the lead to more than 100, but Alan Platt did his captain's job for Werburgh's in his victory over Andy Short by 34 points. After Andy Duckers (Cons) had beaten Roy Baker 44-43, Dave Sharpes pulled the deficit back a little but the result was beyond Werburgh's reach by the time anchor Neal Jones came to the table.

In the quarter-final of the Chester Challenge Trophy, St Saviour's B had a hard-fought win over St Theresa's. Paul Ellis got them off to a good start by overcoming Alan Cheers but Anthony Garland levelled for Theresa's with a good win over George Brady. Scott Wilkie gave Saviours the lead again when he got the better of Ray Cheers on the pink, and Alex Ferguson defeated Micky Thomas to give Saviour's a 3-1 lead.

Alan Page secured the match with a comfortable defeat of Keith Owen and Kevin Maxwell beat Pete Challinor on the black ball to make it 5-1 to Saviours.

The Christleton v Snooker Centre game was a close affair. Barry Davies put the home side ahead with an outstanding 82-24 win over Kevin Green, but Pete Gerrard levelled for Snooker Centre with a 70-42 verdict over Pete Sheppard.

Barry Charker put Christleton ahead again as he saw off Jim Kolar 92-18, but Snooker Centre's Mark Hughes then beat Wayne Amey 89-37 to make it 2-2. Chase Kirwin lost to Snooker Centre's Leo Gorman, but Joey Wynne then defeated Francis Oweti in the final frame of the night to give Christleton the draw and helped them into the semi-final on aggregate points difference (91).

Liberal B put up a good fight against Broughton Wings A. In the first frame, Peter Beswick, receiving a 50-point start off Wings' Gareth Allen, beat him on the black ball. The match went to 3-3 with Wings winning on the black ball in the last frame.

Upton A completed the lineup for the semi-final with a fine success at St Werburgh's .
