SEAN Bartley and Phil Malam have been crowned Crewe LHPL Doubles Champions for the third time.

The Dishers A pair defeated Simon Cope and Ian Affleck, of Kings B, in the final.

The beaten semi-finalists were former champions Lyndsey Roberts and Dave Preece, and Allan Bostock and Dyson Lietch.

A tournament spokesman said: 'This is the fifth time Shaun, a local veteran of the game, has won this competition. He's done it with three different partners including his late father Peter who, like his son, was one of the best players in the area.'

Meanwhile, Dishers B out-potted Rileys A to notch a super 4-1 win in the final of the Worthington League Team Knockout Cup.

The win sealed a league and cup double in their first season in the competition. Wins from Antony Gregory, Preece, Stu Gregory and Rich Banton saw Mick Preece's team take the silverware.

The Cheshire County Pool Association's U18 trials were held at Dishers, South Street, Crewe.

The event saw 24 players, aged nine to 17, take part in the contest to find the top 10. They joined seven retained county players.

The qualifiers included Crewe trio James Entwhistle, Aaron Capper and Leon Broster. The others are: Marc Williams, Sam Maguire, Adam Wong, Simon Cross, Craig Smith, Danny Frayne and Jake Barton.

They join Danny Massey, Lewis Webber, Robbie Wedgewood, Tim Roberts, Andy Barnes, Kris Prince and captain Mike Beeston to form the 2007 squad. They will compete in the National Youth Inter-County Championships.

A county spokesman said: 'The competition was fierce with players coming from Chester, Ellesmere Port, Northwich, as well as Crewe, to battle it out. We wish all the successful young men the best in the forthcoming season.'
