TRIATHLON: CITY of Chester Triathlon Club members have been excelling at home and abroad!

On Sunday, three of the club's members tackled the formidable Norseman Xtreme Long Distance Triathlon in Norway.

The event consisted of a 3.8k swim in the Hard-angerfjord followed by a 180k bike ride over very challenging terrain and then a marathon run.

The weather this year made it the most extreme triathlon so far but the Chester triathletes prevailed with Nick Rose coming 34th in 13:22.04 followed by Tony Fisher (15:49.36) and Nick Campbell (16:49.16).

Chester Tri fielded 14 teams in the national team relay championships held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham on Saturday. Seniors Simon Blackburn, Dave Wieldon, Mark Bennett and Matt Burnett were the first Chester Tri team to finish, completing the course in 3:40.59 closely followed by the vets' team of Andy White, Simon McAllister, Peter Timson and Dave Taylor (3:42.31).

The juniors' team of Niall Kane, Phil Hogg, Elliott Waring and Matthew Kimpton put in an impressive performance to clinch second prize in the competition with a time of 3:49.31.

They were followed by Chester Tri ladies Joanne Lawrence, Julie Webb, Jill Hume, Claire Schofield (3:49.37), then Sean Simmons, Richard Blundell, Louise Cooper, Phil Townshend (3:51.55), Nick Minion, Ritchie Roberts, Phil MacDonald, Chris Morgan (3:52.53), Bill Neave, Ben Yorke, Stephen Spall, Matthew Webb (3:54.17), Dom Miller, Gavin Floyd, Dave Humphreys, Peter Cobb (4:01.14), Justin Russell, John Kane, Barry Frost, Matt Gibbs (4:04.57).
