MORE than 300 athletes braved the wind and rain to take part in the third Markel Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon.
Elite triathlete and Team GB member Nick Beer (Total Fitness Bath) was first through the finishing line in the Olympic distance race, while Heather Jackson (Tri Camp Mallorca) claimed the women’s title.
Sunday’s event, set in the castle grounds, welcomed elite and first-time triathletes, plus eight to 15-year-old children.
All races started with an open water swim in the Deer Park Mere Lake, followed by the cycle ride circumnavigating Bickerton Hill.
The run passed through the estate grounds, with athletes finishing with a sprint down the main lawn to the finish with Cholmondeley Castle as a fitting backdrop. The children’s courses were all within the castle grounds.
Participants without a chosen charity were encouraged to raise money for Help for Heroes and The Wingate Centre.
