KELLY Crickmore was City of Chester Triathlon Club’s star performer at the weekend as she powered to a top-10 finish at the La Rochelle Marathon in western France.

In her debut at the distance, Crickmore performed excellently to pass the post in eighth in two hours, 51 minutes and 30 seconds.

The women’s field was dominated by international athletes to the extent that the local Press commented that it was ‘almost like being at the Ethiopian Championships’, with four Ethiopians finishing in the top five of the women’s race, all chasing the prize money on offer for breaking the course record, which fell to Goitetom Haftu (2.28:22).

Closer to home, Chester provided a fifth of the women’s field at the Liverpool & District Cross Country League race – which was incorporated into the UK Cross Challenge Series – at a distinctly chilly Sefton Park on Saturday.

The Tri guys and girls were part of a distinguished and varied race line-up which included a competitor from Skelmersdale in his 80th year and athletes chasing qualification for the men’s senior and under 23s national teams at the European Cross Country Championships to be held in Portugal later this month.

Peter Brook (34:05) led the way for Chester, followed by Kenny Begley (37:19), Tom Eagle (41:21), Ruth Isaacs (42:08), Kirsty Seddon (43:31), Jan Rogers (43:58), Kate Litherland (44:31) and Carol Coole (49:26).
