BASKETBALL: ELLESMERE Port Panthers defeated Canadian tour team NBC (North Western Basketball Camps) in a double-header at The Hub on Monday.

Jim McGinn's sides won both games with their U16s grabbing a 48-43 victory, although the tourists came close with a fourth-quarter rally after Panthers had led 44-30 at three-quarter time.

Top scorers were Johannah Leedham (19), Kim Jones (10) and Kirsty Leedham (8).

Panthers' U18s team were convincing victors in their match as they secured a 61-19 success, with Johannah Leedham and Lucy Edwards both bagging 16 points and Kim Jones netting nine.

NBC have been organising camps in the USA and Canada for the past 32 years, and now have 10,000 running across the North American continent and the Isle of Man.

They have been sending out touring teams for 19 years and as well as visiting the British Isles, they go to Italy and Australia.

Their camps aim to help their students with both basketball and personal skills, and at half-time during the second match, the NBC squad sung songs to entertain Ellesmere Port players and spectators while some players gave speeches about their time on the camps and their lives back home.
