NEARLY 400 pupils from 11 schools across Mid Cheshire competed for glory at the district's annual cross-country championships on Wednesday.

The championships were hosted by Hartford High School. Competitors aged from 11 to 16 were invited to test their stamina on courses ranging from one-and-a-half miles to three miles.

Lydia Naylor, head of PE at Hartford High School, said: 'The event was a great success. The weather was fine and some excellent times were recorded.

'We would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who helped including staff from the various schools involved and Vale Royal Athletics Club.'

Schools represented included Hartford, St Nicholas, The Grange, Cransley, Weaverham, Rudheath, The County High, Verdin, Woodford Lodge and Middlewich.

The winners were - Year 7 Girls: 1 Kate Moulds (Weaverham), 2 Hannah Bishop (Weaverham), 3 Rosie Deverall (The Grange). Boys: 1 Jamie Roberts (Woodford Lodge), 2 James Parker (The Grange), 3 Josh Boyce (St Nicholas).

Junior Girls: 1 Hannah (St Nicholas), 2 Megan Huxley (Middlewich), 3 Jasmine Roland (County High). Boys: David Allinson (The Grange), 2 Kieran Berrrington (Weaverham), 3 Andrew Miles (Verdin).

Intermediate Girls: 1, Kathy Stringer (Hartford), 2 Nikki Meadows (Verdin), 3 Chloe Bithell (County High). Boys: 1 James Stringer (Hartford); 2 Eddie Crowther (The Grange), 3 Daniel Marner (County High).

The top 20 in each group will now go through to represent Mid Cheshire in the Cheshire Championships at Knight's Grange in January.
