BOWLS: A BRILLIANT display by 14-year-old Tom Vickers won him the Cowley Cup - at the expense of one of Mid Cheshire's top seniors.

Paul Mackie was his opponent in the final at Winsford Cons and Vickers, of Wharton Rec, his 21-10 conqueror.

Castle Private County cap Mackie beat Mark Winnington (Red Lion) by six and another emerging youngster Jon Gurney (Farmers Arms) by nine.

Meanwhile, Vickers beat John Spruce 21-19 and Andy Hamman 21-8, before turning in the performance of his young life.

He beat John Spruce (Kelsall) 15-7 in 18 ends on the Beech Tree green, having seen off Eric Hamman (Meadow bank) and his clubmate Neville Mathias.
