TOM Carter, who awaits possible Commonwealth Games selection, beat the four-minute mile for the second time in a fortnight at the weekend.

The Cuddington athlete clocked 3mins 58 secs at

the televised Emsley Carr mile, which was won by World Championship runner Mike East.

Carter, 24, was ninth of 14 runners in a high-class field. He ran a second

faster in a mile race at Crystal Palace two weeks earlier.

He has ran inside the Commonwealth Games qualifying time for the 1500m and is now at the behest of the England selectors.

Carter's Vale Royal AC clubmate Becky Ellis won the North of England 3k title at Trafford in midweek, clocking 9-58, two second faster than runner-up Vickie Mason (Sale Harriers).
