Widnes Cricket Club A consolidated with a 7-2 win, Phil Gerrard and John Dale both impressive.

St Basil's A brushed aside defending champs Overton 6-3, Alan Dunn (81-25) and 'dynamite' Dave Roberts (71-41) claiming notable scalps.

St Bede's A stay in runners-up spot after a 6-3 win which owed a lot to John Hartshorn (72-40) and Brian Kennedy (55-42).

Widnes Conservative A beat Village A 6-3 in a high-quality contest. There were breaks of 36 from Danny Plumpton, 40 by Richard Whittle and 50 from Andrew Housley.

Stadium A appear the only threat to USC A in the Division Two title chase. They annihilated Village B 8-1 with Eddie Corby (85-30) and Tex Corby (58-11) starring.

The inconsistent Widnes Bowling Club were running hot this week, triumphing 8-1 with Gary Price winning 75-19 and Tony Purcell 73-10.

Ford B won 6-3 with young prospect Graham McCann (72-28) stealing the show. The plot thickens at the head of Division Three where RAOB B and Prescot Reform both won 9-0.

In the top-of-the-table clash, Simms Cross B edged out USC B, John Hallsworth 76-32 being the difference.

Oddies scraped home 5-4 with Dave Christopher 54-49 and Ray O'Connor 61-28 edging the middle frames.

Widnes Cricket Club B (G Soul 69-16) also won by an odd game. Norman Locke had a 27 break for beaten hosts Mill Brow.

Ford thrust themselves back into the Widnes & District Billiards League title hunt with a 7-0 demolition of Widnes Conservative A with Tony Collins (100-64) and Pat Burns (100-49) getting the job done.

Widnes Rec are still the team to beat after a 6-1 win - Andy Grice winning 100-24, Mick Anderson 100-10 and Andrew Housley 100-7.

In the Farnworth derby, the A team came out on top 5-2 - they were lifted by Andy Stacey's 100-32 and Tony Bibby (100-47).

Moorfield won 4-3 but left it late with Dave Evans (100-99) and Dave Forshaw (100-82) both winning last on.

Widnes Conservative Club B likewise triumphed by the narrowest of margins as Leo Milne and John Carter saw them quickly off the blocks.

In Round One of the Champion of Champions Competition, Widnes league representatives Overton were defeated by an excellent Quarry Green side.
