SWIMMING: WINSFORD ASC's Cuddington-based sisters Abi and Lucie Tetley dominated the final leg of the Cheshire Championships.

They and their team-mates won an amazing 11 gold medals to add to their already impressive list of victories.

Abi won the plaudits with an unbeaten run in her five events, which included two fantastic record-breaking feats.

She won the Open 50m freestyle in 27.02secs, to retain her title, and knocked almost half a second of the Cheshire record that had stood since 1993.

In the 16yrs 100m butterfly, she took the gold medal in a time of 64.76secs, lowering the record from 1990 for this age group by over a quarter of a second.

Both times qualify her for entry to the National Youth Championships in August.

She also won gold in the 16yrs 200m butterfly, her time of 2mins 28.47secs also secured her the trophy as junior champion.

Abi also used her unbeatable form in fly and freestyle as the platform for success in the 200m individual medley. She finished in 2:26.43 to win the gold for the 16yrs age group, winning the senior as well as junior championship trophies.

Her fifth success was again at 50m free-style, this time securing the gold in the 16yrs event in 27.07secs.

Younger sister Lucie was the other major contributor to Winsford's gold rush, almost matching her sister with four golds and a bronze.

Having previously swept the board in the 14yrs age-group breaststroke, she tackled the open events at 50m and 100m and dominated both finals to race away with an impressive double. Further gold medals were won in the 14yrs 50m freestyle, in an age-group record of 28.72secs, and the 14yrs 200m IM with a winning time of 2:28.90.

Lucie's fifth medal was the bronze for the 14yrs 400m freestyle.

Ashley Walton and Andrew Irvine were Winsford's other champions, both competing in the 50m freestyle. Ashley swam new personal-best times in both the heat and final to win the 13yrs gold in 27.31 secs. He also won bronze in the 50m backstroke, and achieved a qualifying time for the National Age Group Championships when finishing fourth in the 200m freestyle.

Andrew won the 15yrs final in 26.08secs, and also collected another medal when he won the silver in the 200m freestyle.

James Cowburn was again on the pace for the National Age Group Championships, with

qualifying times in the 100m, 200m freestyle and the 200m IM, on his way to three silver medals and a bronze.

Nigel Davies won the silver medal in the 15yrs 200m breaststroke, and added a bronze for the 200 IM event.

George White (12) took silver and bronze in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, and added another bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Also in the medals were Suzanne Harrison, bronze in the 10yrs 100m backstroke, Alex Hay, silver in 12yrs 50m freestyle, Ryan Morris, bronze in the Open 100m breaststroke, and Oliver Paver, also bronze in the 15yrs race.
