TENNIS: It was home sweet home for ace Chester tennis coach Liam Shelbourne as he lifted the vacated men’s crown at the North Wales Open Championships.

Returning to the Prestatyn tournament where he first played as a junior 14 years ago, the Hoole Lawn Tennis Club coach proved to strong for Mold’s David Openshaw in the final.

Shelbourne, 30, romped to a 6-2 6-1 success to take the title from Wrexham’s Simon Morris, who abandoned hopes of a seventh successive victory because of work commitments.

Former Wales international Shelbourne, originally from Old Colwyn, said: "It was a good final and I’ll certainly be back next year to defend it if I possibly can."
