MARTIAL ARTS: A NEW Tae Kwon-do club is to open in Crewe in the new year.

Fifth Dan Peter Johnson has been running classes in the Staffordshire area for 25 years and will launch a set of classes at the Camm Street Centre, starting on Thursday, January 8.

Johnson has a wealth of experience to call upon, having graded and trained in Korea with the Korean Olympic team.

He has trained many champions over the years including Alsager's Danielle Baker, who recently won a silver medal in the Junior Olympics in America and who last month won the Portuguese International in Nazare, an event in which another of his students, Jemma Gibson, came third in the junior section.

Johnson is registered with WTF Tae Kwon-do, which is recognised by the IOC and the British Tae Kwon-do control board.

The lessons will be open to all ages and there will be special 'Little Ninjas' courses for children.

'There are benefits for everybody in Tae Kwon-do in terms of fitness, flexibility and confidence and also in an excellent self-defence,' said Mr Johnson, who also runs a club at Alsager Leisure Centre.
