ANGLING: FISHERMAN'S Tackle are back in contention for the Heronbrook Fishery Spring League title.

Following a disappointing result in the previous match, they won on Sunday and, although still second, have narrowed the gap on the leaders to six points with one match left.

Top weighers were Steve Kelly with 69lbs of carp, Colin Cooke with 37-8-0 of carp and Neil Machin with 37lbs.

The Rod 'N' Reel team was 11th to remain in the top 10. Carl Fletcher led their efforts with 32-12-0 of carp, supported by John Woodrow with 21-4-0 carp and Lee Saville with 13-10-0.

The leading Chester Tackle Locker team was the 1664 squad who were 20th, thanks to Gary Bough with 36-8-0 of carp, Dave Griffiths with 31-10-0 and John Tyreman with 1-8-0.

Their Sidekicks squad was 28th through Danny McLoughlin with 8-12-0, Alan Spencer 7lbs and Roy Price 19-4-0.

Peter Ashton led the field in the Upton AC match at Hampton Springs Fishery with 62-8-0 of carp from Phil Hardman's 48lbs and Dean Jones's 22-4-0.

Capenhurst Flyfishers cast their lines from boats on Trawsfynydd lake, where top rod was Brian Ritchie with five rainbows weighing 7-4-0 using buzzers. Dennis Need was next with 6-4-0 from Graham Knox with 5lbs.

Dave Grimes won the Rivacre AC match at Blundells fishery with 30-15-0 of hybrids and fantails from Billy Gore's 15-14-0 and Jason Connah's 15-7-0.

Graham Aveyard took the honours in the Wirral Borough Council AC match at Milton Green Fishery with 11-10-0 of carp, from Ricky Arnaud's 10-12-0 and Jamie Stewart's 9-10-0.

Victory in the Willaston AC match at Lingmere Fishery went to Mark Grafton with 33-10-0 of carp and skimmers, ahead of Jamie Hughes's 21-15-0 and Paul Farquar's 14-4-0.

Bob Carville collected top prize in the Royal Mail AC match on the Llangollen Canal with 2-5-0 of chub and roach, from Stan Williams with a roach-based 2-1-0 and Ian Jones with 1-6-0 of roach and chub.

Harold Janion was top in the North West Flyfishers' contest at Dearnford Hall Fishery with four rainbows weighing 10-10-0, all taken with a white lure. Steve Ainsworth had four fish for 8-14-0 and Ron Powell was third with 8-11-14.

Cheshire Police Flyfishers travelled to Draycote reservoir near Rugby, where Gary Fowles won the eight-fish match with 15-11-0 of rainbows, the best weighing 3-12-0 falling to a peach mini lure. Ian Hodson had 15-8-0 and Peter Hindle 15-2-0.

Shaun Sandham had a good week starting with victory in the Milton Green Fishery open match with 30lbs of small carp. Martin Holding was second with 25-8-0 and Wendy Locker third with 23-8-0.

He then won the Tarvin Sands AC match with 27lbs of carp from Les Picken's 20lbs and Martin Holding's 17-12-0.

FISHERIES REPORTS Lake Hill: John Hughes, of Wirral, tempted a 9-8-0 rainbow and three others weighing 6-8-0, using a mepps spinner, and Richard Hutchinson, of Chester, coaxed a 4lbs orange rainbow to a gold-ribbed hare's ear. The fishery is offering a half-price ticket for juniors under 16 accompanied by an adult.

Meadow: Richard Bailey, of Chester, fished a buzzer to take a 6-4-0 rainbow.

Dearnford Hall: Stan Bettison, of Broughton, lured a 5-3-0 brown trout to a CDC sedge and Colin Baynes, of Ellesmere Port, fished a black buzzer to net their best fish of the week, an 8-2-0 rainbow.

Burton Mere: Steve Doughty, of Neston, lured a 22-8-0 mirror carp to a boilie.

Meadow: Alan Bennett, of Deeside, lifted a 5-12-0 rainbow using a black buzzer and Richard Bailey, Chester, tempted a 6-4-0 rainbow to a buzzer.

Harthill: Paul Burns, of Ellesmere Port, netted six carp between 4lbs and 10-8-0 to floating bread.

Four Oaks: Ted Bennett, of Saltney, netted 30lbs of mirror carp up to 4lbs and tench to 2lbs using maggot. Justin Toye, of Blacon, took a 4-8-0 catch of silver fish using maggot.

Cheshire: Stuart Hubbard, 17, of Ellesmere Port, landed 172lbs of carp up to 16-2-0 using squid and squid boilies in a 36-hour session.

Milton Green: Ian Metcalf, of Chester, lured 11 carp, the best an 11lbs fish, and six good bream using pepperami bread pellett; Julian Roberts, of Ellesmere Port, tempted 15 carp and numerous barbel and roach to paste or bread; and Mike Smith, of Wirral, coaxed a 17lbs common carp and four more carp to weigh in 30lbs.
