TWO Chester youngsters are getting ready for a taste of the big time at the British Swimming Olympic Trials.

Upton High School student Tom Allen and Chester Catholic High School’s Lucy Worrall, both 15, will compete at the Ponds Forge event in Sheffield, running from Monday through to Sunday, which is formerly known as the British Championships.

Both are members of the Swim Flintshire elite performance training scheme after following coach Stewart Clamp from the City of Chester Swimming Club.

Clamp said: “We’re not expecting them to qualify for the Olympics but it is a chance for them to compete against swimmers who may.

“Tom is looking to break the British record in the 1,500m front crawl for his age group and also qualify for Wales for the Commonwealth Youth Games in the 200m butterfly, while Lucy, of Vicars Cross, has a chance of making the World Youth and European Junior Championships.”
