TRIATHLON: TWO Chester women did themselves proud when they represented Great Britain at the ITU World Triathlon Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii.

City of Chester Triathlon Club duo Jan Morgan, 54, and Ellie Debenham, 22, faced stiff competition as they tackled the 1.5km ocean swim, 40km bike and 10k run in sweltering conditions.

In the 20-24 age group category, Ellie crossed the line in 2:33.19 while Janet finished in 3:21.00 in the 50-54 age group.

The duo guaranteed their places on the GB team after securing qualifying times at the Olympic Distance Triathlon at Ellesmere, Shropshire, in June.

Closer to home, five Chester triathletes ditched the swim and bike to take on a classic tough assignment - the Sandstone Trail Race.

The full 16.8-mile race started at Duckington and headed across country to Delamere via Bickerton, Rawhead and Bukeley Hills where at Beeston it picked up the 9.8 mile race. Peter Cobb completed the full distance in an impressive 2:17.41 followed by Chris Lees (2:47.16) and Janet Frost (2:48.37).

Martyn Fairlamb and Andrea Mageean completed the B race in 1:25.07 and 1:40.26 respectively.

Chester club members also featured highly in the 2005 High Five Challenge.

Paul Hawkins was third senior male and third overall while Matthew Fisher was first junior male and fourth overall.

Bill Neave was first male veteran and fifth overall while Janet Morgan was second female super vet and John Shakeshaft second male vintage vet.
