ONE of America's greatest fighting champions made a surprise visit to a Crewe martial arts club to pass on combat tips.
Jeff 'The Snowman' Monson popped in to Crewe Fight Club, a mixed martial arts club based at the Camm Street Gym.
Shock was written across the faces of the local lads when Monson, fresh from winning the Ultimate Fighting Champion title in Las Vegas, strolled into their training session.
The Cage Warriors Heavyweight title holder, two-times Abu Dhabi Sub-mission World Champion, multiple NAGA Super fight winner and Grapplers Quest Winner is a household name across the Atlantic.
He spent two hours with the group, demonstrating his best moves and answering questions.
Crewe Fight Club spokesman Jason Williams explained: 'Our coach Mark Wilson is a lecturer at MMU in Alsager, and Jeff was there visiting his girl-friend.
'He saw him walk past and couldn't believe his luck!
'Usually Jeff commands huge fees for seminars and coaching, but when Mark asked he said he would come along for nothing.
'He was absolutely excellent with us. You couldn't wish to meet a nicer bloke and he spent plenty of time with us giving us tips and answering questions. It certainly caused a stir.'
Monson was due to fight in the recent Cage Fighting Championships in Manchester, but a car
crash ruled him out.
Formed more than two years ago, Crewe Fight Club practice sub-grappling, wrestling, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, kick-boxing and boxing, under the tuition of Wilson and Tyrone Smith.
Williams added: 'The sport is going to be very big in this country and will eventually take over from
boxing. A few of our lads have fought on Sky and we've got a few young and up-and-coming fighters who will do well in the next year.'
He added: 'But this is not a barbaric sport enjoyed by thugs off the street. It is highly technical and skilful and we have lecturers and doctors who take part.'
Crewe Fight Club, who train on Mondays and Wednesdays between 6.15pm-7.30pm, are sponsored by SLB Cars, Cars R Uss and Ginger Monkey Tattoo. nAnyone interested in joining can contact Jason Williams on 07843435662. Participating members must be aged 18 or over.
