RUNNING: CREWE'S Stevie Stockton ran her best ever race on Saturday to win the North of England Cross Country championships in Blackburn.

Stevie, a member of Vale Royal AC, kept stride for stride with former national silver medallist Jessica Coulson, from Stockport, as the pair left the rest behind, at Witton Park on Saturday.

After 2.5K of the 4.5K, Stevie pulled away to take U17 Girls gold in 20:24. She was delighted to see training partner Hannah Weedall (20:43) cross the line in third.

Vale Royal U17 Girls team took silver overall, thanks to the efforts of Sandbach girls Lorna Timms (22:48), Rachel Clews (22:49) and Louise Bosson (24:21).

Fellow Sandbach residents Andrew Clews (13:17), from Sandbach, finished 43rd in the U15 Boys race, while Emily Furber (15:50) came 88th in the U15 Girls race. Both were over 4K.

Meanwhile, South Cheshire Harriers Mike Cutler (45:05) and John Latham (54:09) took part in the charity Chernobyl 10K road race at Walton Park, near Preston, finishing in 148th and 310th place respectively.
