ELITE triathlete Oly Stanley powered to a superb sixth-place finish in the gruelling junior World Cup Series race at Salford Quays.
The Chester race ace drew on all of his experience as a national swimming champion to complete the first leg of the triathlon in second place.
However, the cycling phase proved to be a difficult stage of the race for Oly and, although he maintained second position at the start of the final 5k run, fatigue finally got the better of him and he crossed the line in sixth place.
Oly also represented Wales Juniors at the Home Nations Champion-ships, which were incorporated into the London Triathlon.
Oly led after the swim and was again second coming into the final transition, but history repeated itself and he finished sixth overall.
Despite all his efforts and the fatigue of competing in two events, Oly was back in training at 6am the next day.
The 19-year-old former Abbey Gate College pupil is a member of Great Britain's elite triathlon squad based at Loughborough University.
