CUDDINGTON and Sandiway have set a club record.

Of their nine sides in the South and Mid Cheshire League six, including all three ladies' teams, won promotion and the remaining three, at the very least, avoided relegation.

Women's A team skipper Linda Smith said: 'We have won two titles in a season in the past, but never six promotions and none relegated.

'We certainly surpassed expectations. It is our best ever season.'

The roll of honour reads: Men's B, captained by Russ Smith, runners-up Division Four; C, captain Colin Bristol, runners-up Division Five; Women's A, champions Division Two; B, captain Sue Bradley, champions Three; C, Val Keeley, second Four; Mixed C, Heather Williams, runners-up Division Two.

Chris Knight (Men's A), Janet Worrall and Mike Linsell (Mixed A and B) led their teams to safety.

Smith added: 'And it is encour-aging that five juniors play regularly for the senior sides.

'What's more the junior team, playing as men's D in the winter competition and captained by Chris Hoyle, have won the fair play trophy for the whole of the league, summer and winter.'

The five holding their own among the seniors are: Amy Cap-stick, Jo Ralph, Brad Bird, Alex King and Jack Bell.

Bird brought further honours to the club when he was named the Cuddington & Sandiway young sports person of the year, receiving the Joan Handley Award.

There are 300 members of Cuddington Tennis Club, whose courts are at Norley Road.

New players of all standards and ages are welcome for social or competitive tennis.
