SUCCESSFUL summer training camps at Nantwich Tennis Club have sparked high demand for coaching for the rest of the year.

With the warm summer season seemingly at an end, tennis racquets are often put in mothballs for another 12 months.

But youngsters who attended the club for sessions this summer have been booking places for a programme of activities in September and beyond.

Coach Nicola Herbert enthused: 'The summer junior tennis camp was very well attended with record numbers enrolling. Many were new play-ers who had never tried tennis before.

'There is high demand for the new September coaching programme and I am delighted. It shows the soaring popularity of the sport, with more and more youngsters ready to give tennis a go.' The course in September, featuring mini and full-court tennis, is for children aged four to 16, while an adult course will commence mid-September.

The expert coaching that players receive at Nantwich is paying off. Eight-year-olds Maddie Pollen, Luke Gidion and Jamie Oakes have won places in Cheshire Mini-Tennis Finals at Stockton Heath TC, Warrington, later this month.
