CHESHIRE Tigers travelled to Wigan's Robin Park for their third round match in the National Junior Track and Field League Mersey Division match.

The very young and small squad performed brilliantly in scorching temperatures to return home in third place.

All of the squad are still in the Under 17 age group and Rowena Evans of Macclesfield was joined by seven athletes from West Cheshire AC.

James Callaghan took control of the throwing events to gain two wins and a second place in the shot, javelin and discus respectively.

James was certainly kept busy as he dashed from the shot area to the javelin area but it did not cause a problem.

Alan Littler wrapped up the points in the discus by finishing in first place in the B event. Alan was second in the B discus event and came home in fourth place in the 400m.

Rachel Stoakley ran a fine race to be edged out on the line in the 100m, being given the same time as the winner.

Daisy Flynn Piercy was first in the B event with Shona Valentine and Stephanie Owens competing in the 200m, finishing second and fourth respectively in the A and B races. Stephanie won the ladies hammer event decisively and Rowena finished in second place in the B event.

The two girls took second places in the discus, while Rebecca Grimes and Daisy were the representatives in the javelin and the shot. Rebecca finished in fourth place in the 400m hurdles.

Ruth and Shona wrapped up first place in the A and B long jump events, and were second and third in the high jump and triple jump.

Rowena rounded off the individual events by leaping to a second place in pole vault.

The relay squad of Daisy, Rebecca, Shona and Rowena were just edged out of first place to complete a superb set of results.
