SWIMMING: Members of the City of Chester Swimming Club chalked up plenty of podium finishes at the Liverpool and District Championships.

Twenty-five Chester youngsters, aged between nine and 15, and claimed 48 top-three places over the two-day event.

The club's youngest swimmer, nine-year-old Sophie Armstrong, raced in four events and picked up silver medals in the 200m backstroke and breaststroke.

Ten-year-old Rebecca Eaglesham gained three golds and silvers to seal qualification for the Northern Counties District Championships.

In the 11 years section, Ben Jones and George Watts collected bronze medals from their races, while Rebbeca Davis, Emily Kelly and Ben Phillips all competed strongly in their four events.

In the 12-years age group, Jon Armstrong and Chris Williams had a very successful weekend. Jon came away with a gold in the 100m breaststroke race and secured five bronze medals, while Chris struck gold in the 400m freestyle and won two silvers in 200m fly and backstroke.

Imogen Nock picked up a silver medal in the 400m freestyle as well as two bronzes, and Alice Howarth claimed two bronzes in the 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle.

Alice Little, 13, gained two golds, one silver and one bronze, while Holly McCann scooped three bronze medals. Emma Spruce came fourth in the 100m breaststroke and fifth in 200m individual medley.

In the 14 years section, Gill Bentley achieved a silver and a bronze, despite missing the first Saturday due to illness. Jack Quinn competed in seven events, and gained bronze in four competitions.

In the 15-years age group, Gemma Clethro swam to a silver medal in three of her four events. James Welch took a silver and bronze in 100m and 200m backstroke, while Juliet Stephenson claimed bronze in the 100m breaststroke race.
