ATHLETICS: THE future looks bright for budding athletes at Coppenhall High School.
Year 10 pupils Charlotte Watling, Daniel Neyland and Stevie Stockton performed extremely well at an inter-county competition at Birmingham's Alexandra Stadium.
That was despite being forced to compete against youngsters from Year 11, as age groups for athletics are worked out differently than the normal school years.
The talented trio all managed top-10 finishes. And as they will be among the oldest competing in the same age group this time next year, prospects look good.
PE teacher Chris Steele said: 'What they do is amazing. I am really chuffed for them, to put it mildly. They are the young-est in the age group at the moment and they are up there with the front-runners. It gives us really high hopes for next year.'
Current Cheshire champion Stevie came fifth in her 1,500m event, running it in 4mins 54secs. Daniel, who is second best in the county for high jump, earned seventh place with his leap of 1m 70cms.
Charlotte, also second in the county, came fifth in her long jump tournament with a season's best of 4m 65cms.
