GOLF: VIC McCANDLESS has won Crewe Golf Club's premier competition of the year - the Guy Harvey Scratch competition.
Contested by the club's top eight golfers, Vic carded a score of 68+69=137.
Roy Smethurst was one shot back with a nett 138 with Andy Grunner edging out Dave Baker for third on countback.
Crewe ladies' Guy Harvey Tray - a 36-hole qualifying competition - was won by Kay Samson with cards of 79-15-64 and 83-15=68. Paula Ross was runner-up with two scores of 78-7=71. The club champion, the top qualifier for this event, is Rosemary Lowe.
Queens Park GC tied 3.5-3.5 with Knight's Grange in their Match Play Pairs fixture.
Les Holland ran out winner in Division One of the Sunday medal competition, pipping Alberto Enjuales on countback after both carded 70-12=58. Steve Jones pipped John Jones in the Division Two competition after both returned cards of 80-18=62.
Twelve-handicapper Dave Houghton carded 144 points to win the Stableford Trophy, shading the verdict from Andy Bennett's 43 points.
Steve Thompson emerged victorious in the Masters with a score of 238 points. Mick Sharp was second with 140.
Sunday's Stableford event was won by Andy Bennett who scored 45 points, pipping Darren Jennings on countback.
Gary Hill won the Midweek Medal with a nett 57, finishing five shots clear of John Taylor.
