SPEEDWAY: STOKE Potters have made the first step in formulating their team for the 2004 season with the news that the highly-influential Jan Staechmann has agreed to sign for a fourth consecutive season, writes Neil Evans.

The announcement received a huge roar of approval when it was made at the highly-successful end-of-season get together on Saturday.

'This is a terrific way to start our team building for next season and shows that we are committed to bringing the best riders to Loomer Road,' said promoter Dave Tattum.

'Both Jan and Stoke Speedway knew that we wanted him here again next season and we reached agreement on a deal within minutes. He was terrific to deal with and he will be a very good figurehead for the club.

'The man is very, very professional and conducts himself ever so well. He is very well liked on the terraces and he brings a whole array of talents with him on race nights.

'As good a season as he had last year, I suspect there is possibly even more to come from Jan and there is no doubt that this is a top-class first signing for the club and the supporters.'

All the Potters riders bar Jon Armstrong, who sent apologies, plus many of the Spitfires riders were in attendance on the night.

'It was probably our best end-of-season get together yet and despite the disappointments of last season, there is a tremendous spirit amongst the riders and supporters,' added Tattum.
