ANGLING: Chester Tackle Locker star Mike Flannagan teamed up with Graham Aveyard to blow away the field in the Wirral Borough AC contests at the weekend.

The duo picked up the pairs prize after netting a staggering total of 321lb 11oz in the two matches at Glebe Fishery near Nuneaton.

Chester’s John Spencer bagged in excess of 70lb to record the best catch of the week at Cheshire Fishery, Tattenhall.

Spencer netted mostly carp weighing up to 6lb along with some good roach and skimmers on pellet feeding micro pellet.

The Airbus match team claimed a creditable third in the British Aerospace Nationals at Baden Hall Fishery in Eccleshall at the weekend. Saltney’s Barry Davies won his section along with Kevin Walters.

Simon Knibbs, of Tattenhall, was in great form in Saturday’s open match at Hampton Springs Fishery.

Drawn on Long Island, he bagged 69lb 10oz of fish from the margins of his peg and at 10m for victory.

Knibbs’ nearest rival was Chester Tackle Locker’s Andy Spencer, of Christleton, with 51lb 8oz. Another Tackle member, Waverton’s Julian Tatton, was third with 47lb 4oz.

Oaklands AC staged their Sunday match at Lloyds Meadow Fisheries on the Top Pool.

Tim Scanlon, of Vicars Cross, was the outright winner with a splendid 86lb 8oz, which included some great carp in the 3-4lb bracket using corn on the method feeder. Hoole’s Geoff Dentith took third with 34lb of carp.

Champion on merit

BOWLS: Graham James emerged triumphant in the Chester & District League Merit showpiece at Broughton & Bretton BC.

The Farndon BC ace lifted the Ron Dawson Trophy for the first time after beating former champion Richie Jamieson (Airbus) 21-16 in the final.

Hoole Park have been re-crowned champions of the Chester Over 60s League while Jim Dymond (Hoole B) beat Nigel Mingins (Cherry Grove A) to win the Burrows Cup.

Bill Dean (Upton) and Charlie Potts (Hoole D) were the semi-finalists.

Frank Challinor and Vinny Parsonage won Hoole BC’s Frank Wilding Doubles Cup which came hot on the heels of Dymond’s Clary Jenkins Cup final success over Elwy Jones.

Top class events

POLOCROSSE: Celyn Polocrosse Club are staging two top-class events this weekend (Saturday-Sunday).

Not only will the club present a junior and Under 21s selection match for the United Kingdom Polocrosse Association (UKPA), but they will also present a UKPA versus Ireland U21s contest.

Both events will take place in Mollington, with directions from the Little Chef on the A540 going towards Chester, just off the M56.

Players are wanted

BADMINTON: Christleton BC are keen to sign-up new members.

The club runs four teams in the Chester & District League and meet at Christleton Sports Centre on Mondays and Fridays from 8-10pm.

Christleton’s juniors meet at the same venue every Sunday from 10am-noon and players aged between eight and 16 are welcome.

Tournament double

CROQUET: Chester Croquet Club hold the Hibiscus Tournament on Saturday and the Christine Long Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 26.

Both will be played in Westminster Park. Spectators are welcome.
