A SPORTS coach is trekking to the world’s highest mountain to raise money for a disability sports team.
Andy Webster, 28, of Helsby, is a qualified coach who works with schools and councils throughout Cheshire.
He dedicates some of his time to helping run the West Cheshire Dynamos at The Hub in Ellesmere Port – and now he is trying to raise money for the football team by undergoing a 50-mile trek through the foothills of the Himalayas to base camp at Everest.
On his journey he will climb 5,647 metres but he believes the trip will be worthwhile if it highlights the work going on with the Dynamos and the Ellesmere Port and Neston Special Olympics committee, which promotes disability sport in the area.
Andy said: “We all help each other. Most of the other disability sports athletes go to national competitions and we help them raise money.
“The Dynamos don’t go to many competitions, but when we do they fundraise for us as well.
“All I want to do with this trek is to show people what is going on on their doorstep. Perhaps people will want to get involved or even just donate a little to help.”
The Dynamos have lined up a trip to Belfast to play disability teams from Northern Ireland. A bag-pack at Morrisons in Ellesmere Port raised £1,000.
“I really want to make people aware,” he said. “I am quite adventurous and this seemed like a good way to go about showcasing the good work the team and the committee are doing.
“The Dynamos are an amazing and inspiring group and have overcome many challenges themselves competing in tournaments across the country.”
