ANGLING: THE series of matches aimed at decreasing the fish stock at Oulton Mill Pool has come to an end. Sunday's fixture was a charity event and won easily by Alan Southern, writes JOHN STUBBS.

His 20-7-0 catch was virtually unchallenged. Jack Williams was runnerup with 9-12-0, followed by Ray Latham 7-10-0, Johnny Tyreman 7-0-0 and Mike Appleton 6-4-0.

The water is being lowered and the Tarporley AC matches have been aimed at helping the process, by transferring all the fish caught to Budworth pool.

Authorities now need to decide whether enough has been done or whether anglers can go on playing their part.

Winsford Veterans have switched from the River Weaver to Border Fisheries, but the spring has not yet sprung and they were met by frost and, once again, fishing was hard.

Len Clarke came good in the final hour on peg 14, his late flurry of bites bringing up to 10-4-0. On the other side of the lake, Ted Walsh scaled five carp worth 8-8-0, Eric Moore had 7-10-0, Trevor Lovatt 6-10-0 and his brother Graham 5-0-0.

Anglers should note they need new Environment Agency and Northwich AA cards from tomorrow. With the exception of their River Weaver and Dane lengths, all Northwich waters remain open.
