FOR the third week running, Vauxhall recovered from falling two games down to fight back and secure victory in the Lookers Ellesmere Port League.

Conservative A were their latest victims.

Cons had a great start with the impressive Dave Parry defeating Vauxhall captain Alastair Engle before Gareth Edwards made it 2-0 to the visitors with a comprehensive victory against Paul Bradley.

Then the tide turned. Paul Lewis beat Warren Hughes in a tense black-ball game before Ian Bartley made it all square, breaking his duck for the season against G Martin.

Vauxhall were then sitting pretty as unbeaten starlets John Cross and Adam Stapleton took to the baize, maintaining their excellent form in beating Phil Brown and Colin Edwards respectively.

Labour A shocked summer league champions Conservative B away from home to take them in to third.

Captains clashed in the opening game as Alan Page trebled the black against Dave Sharpes to give his team the perfect start. John Price quickly made it 2-0, defeating Colin Jones.

Alan Platt briefly lifted the home team before Labour’s John Pugh beat Tim Maddocks with ease. Brian Reynolds gave the Conservatives a glimmer of hope before Neil Rimmer’s 53-point victory over Vic Sharpes gave Labour maximum points.

At Whitby Sports and Social Club last Thursday, the home team threw everything they had at league leaders Groves in a thrilling encounter, with Groves sneaking the aggregate after finishing all square after six games.

Despite Jack Bradford ‘tonning’ J Lowe, Martin Hodder responded in style for Whitby in beating Steve Procter to make it all square.

Chris Stone gave the home team the advantage in defeating Chris Read and captain Kev Maxwell made no mistake against Phil Fairclough to make it 2-2.

It set up a grand finale where Whitby’s Ronnie Gerrard took care of Scott Wilkie, before Groves’ Steve Holmes won by 54 points to take the extra point for the away team.

Legion C took maximum points against bottom of the league Conservative D.
