ST Saviour’s A booked their place in the semi-finals of the CD McAllister Trophy with a victory over Olympic Trophies Division Two leaders Q Bar B.
The match opened with Paul Bradley playing Q Bar’s Danny Harrison, who took the last four colours and won on the black by 10 points.
In a close contest, Barry Davis beat Steve Proctor by 24 points before J Saxby was well beaten by Anthony Gallagher by 63 points.
At this point, Q Bar were on schedule for a good points victory – but then their world came apart.
Captain Joey Wynne struggled against Brian Conde and won a black ball fight by four points.
Derek Morris played well against Robbie Hayes and virtually sealed the match for Saviours.
His 33-point win meant Mike Bennett had to win the final frame against Colin Osborne by 79 points. But after a good effort, he could manage only a win by 32, giving Saviours victory by 46 points.
In the only other quarter final to be played, Christleton B saw off Upton RBL by 57 points.
Glen Shiel opened for Upton with a win against Andy Mumford. Chris Bennion started well against Wayne Amey, but Amey took command and won by 27 points.
Christleton were now only 31 points behind after giving 78 start.
Stuart Hardman beat Chris Dixon by 25 points, Christleton’s Chris Hesketh overcame John O’Boyle by 57 points and give Christleton a 51-point lead. Shawn Woodworth met up with John Over (Sen), who triumphed by 13 points so only 38 points separated the teams.
Mike Rigby used all his skills to overcome John Over (Jun) by 19 points to give Christleton the match.
