THE race to finish second in the Chester League’s Olympic Trophies Division One is hotting up.

The two leading contenders for runners-up spot, Christleton B and Conservative A, both chalked up convincing wins.

Christleton B were 6-0 winners at Ellesmere Port Conservative Club.

The performance of the night came from Shawn Wordsworth, who beat Colin Jones. Stuart Hardman had a 39 break in his win over Sean Steadman while Andy Mumford came from behind to defeat Dave Sharpe, potting from the green to win on the pink. Wayne Amey saw off Alan Platt and Chris Hesketh overcame Carl Leeming.

Conservative A claimed a 5-1 victory over visitors Upton RBL A.

Chris Bennion took the first frame for Upton, but that was as good as it got as Cons hit back in style.

Wins by Eddie Jenkins, Jason Taylor, Craig Thelwell, Andy Short and Barry Charker sealed it for Cons, who are now level on points with Christleton.

Broughton Wings were 5-1 winners at Christleton A, taking the first five frames before a big shock arrived in the sixth.

Gareth Allen, who was joint leading scorer in this season’s league, fell to a great performance by Matty Done.

Chester Bus had a good 5-1 success at Utd Services. Captain Vinny Futcher beat Tony McKevitt in a close frame. Mike Griffiths, John Cripps, Shane Futcher and Mark Jones also chipped in before Paul Lewis gave Services a consolation frame.

Q Bar A continued their charge towards the title with a 4-2 victory over Rileys.

Neal Jones put himself clear in the ‘most wins’ chart by one and Richard Remellie lost for the first time in the league this season, to Ray Cheers.

County Offices kept their promotion aspirations alive with a 4-2 win over Conservative C. Mark Lloyd opened the scoring for CCO with a close black ball frame against Tom Donnelly. John Wells made it 1-1 with a win over Phil Heaney.

Keith Cadman, Harold Hewson and Kevin Rowlands won the next three for CCO before George Lofthouse had a surprise success over Colin Hargreaves on the black.

In the Ron Woodcock Memorial Trophy, Jerry Banks comfortably beat Phil Sullivan 2-0 while Harold Hewson defeated John Gerrard.
