A STRONG Chester Bus side were too good for Liberal A in the Riley’s Division.
Mike Griffiths got them off to a good start with a win over Anthony Hughes. Liberal turned the score around with Alan Dagnall and Steve Ankers making it 2-1. But the last three for the Busmen were a really strong trio and they all won. Chris Read beat Phil Sullivan 98-40, Gordon Dugdale accounted for Gareth Cribbens and Shane Futcher saw off Pete Bowes to make it 4-2.
Christleton A fought out a good draw against leaders Conservative Club (Ellesmere Port). Alan Platt got the better of Gareth Lloyd in a close frame and Colin Jones put Cons 2-0 up with a narrow win over Dave Done. Barry Charker made it 2-1 but S Steadman put Cons 3-1 ahead with an easy success over Mike Craig. John Mooney (Christleton) brought the score back to 2-3 and Matty Done beat Cartl Leeming on the black to give Christleton a draw.
Tony McKevitt beat Eddie Jenkins in a close match to give Utd Services a good start at Conservative Club. Jason Taylor levelled with a close 58-46 victory over Anthony Courtney. Geoff Brassington kept his 100% record by comfortably beating Steve Williams, then Brian Morgan made it 2-2 with a win over Paul Lewis. It was left to Neal Jones and Andy Short to wrap up a 4-2 triumph for Cons.
Riley’s chalked up their first win of the season when they travelled to take on last year’s runners up St Saviour’s.
Lea Stephens and Gareth Sudlow put them 2-0 up and although Scott Wilkie pulled one back for Saviours, Alan Cheers kept the two-frame gap by beating Alex Ferguson. Kevin Maxwell accounted for Neil Harris to bring the score back to 3-2 but captain Ray Cheers sealed the points for Riley’s by seeing off Paul Hughes.
After Upton ABL A’s Jim Kolar lost to Chris Bennion, Pete Gerrard and Kevin Green put Snooker Centre 2-1 ahead. But that was the last of their scoring as Glen Morley, Chris Dixon and John Over(Sen) gave Upton the win.
In the Olympic Trophies Division, Conservative C had a good win over St Saviour’s A. Neil Kenyon and A Rogers won with John Wells, Kevin Harris and Dave Burns making it 5-0. Dave Lyth was Saints’ only win.
After J McMahon and G Yard had lost the opening frames, M Edwards, Archie Lamb, Mike Taylor and Darroch Mackie gave Broughton Wings a 4-2 victory over CCO.
Blacon drew 3-3 with Conservative B.
