RICKY Walden has vowed to learn from his Crucible experience after he crashed out of the World Championship.

The Chester-born potter, who was making his debut at the legendary Sheffield venue, lost a high-quality first-round showdown with his friend, world number four Mark Selby, 10-6 on Monday.

While disappointed to make an early exit, the world number 35 said: “I discovered the atmosphere is like no other, the pressure is like no other, so I’m in good stead for coming here next year.”

In the Chester League, Conservative A beat Chester Bus 4-2 to maintain their hopes of catching Riley’s Division leaders Christleton B.

Neal Jones got Cons going, making a 32 break in his win over Kevin Conway, before Steve Williams saw off Damien Futcher for 2-0.

Cons’ Brian Morgan went down to Mike Griffiths but the title chasers stole into a 3-1 lead when Jason Taylor edged out Shane Futcher.

In the battle of the captains, Eddie Jenkins ran out a winner over Vinnie Futcher to stretch Cons’ lead to 4-1.

With the match over, Andy Duckers lost out to Gordon Dugdale.

Bottom team Liberal notched up their first win of the season when they travelled to Christleton A.

Alan Dagnall and Tony Hughes put Liberal two frames ahead but Matt Done pulled one back. Phil Sullivan easily accounted for Mike Craig and Tom Hughes beat John Mooney to record Liberal’s first win. Barry Charker made it a respectable score with his victory over Steve Ankers. Riley’s finished their season with a good 4-2 home success over Snooker Centre.

In the Olympic Trophies Division, CCO moved into a clear second place when they defeated Blacon B 5-1. Dave Roberts , Phil Heaney, K Rowlands, Geoff Powell and Keith Cadman all came out on top.

Liberal B drew 3-3 with Conservative C and Upton B had a good 4-2 home success over Waverton. Ken Perks won the opening frame against Paul Chapple, but Chris Connolly levelled when defeating John Fergus.

Mike Wilkes and Brian Sharratt gave Upton B a 3-1 lead, only for Bill McClimmonds to pull it back to 3-2 .

It was left to Dave Nicholas to give Upton the 4-2 win.
