Darren Scott was pipped at the post in British Athletics League's Gold Cup final at Bedford.

But the veteran athlete from Weston Point, now living in Frodsham, helped his club Trafford to overall fourth spot - one of their best placings at the event.

In the process, he claimed the scalp of Du'aine Ladejo, the one-time European 400m champion from Birchfield. Scott clocked 22.3 in tough conditions - a tenth of a second behind the winner with Ladejo a further tenth adrift in third.

This Sunday, Scott races in the Northern Knockout final at Cudworth.

The 37-year-old, a personal trainer, is offering 16s and over a half-price fitness test at £15 throughout September.

The price includes a free day membership at Runcorn's Fitness First - call the gym in Trident Park on 01928 717788.
