UNITED Services B completed a Widnes & District Snooker League double for their Prescot Road club by becoming Division Three champions.

They emulated the efforts and achievements of their A team, who had already taken the title in Division Two.

USC B capped their successful season with an 8-1 demolition of Farnworth E with youngsters John Woodward (78-26), Martin Evans (65-36) and Wayne Hewitt (82-20) underlining their promise.

Division One's St Bede's are firmly in the driving seat for runners-up spot. Andy McKay (58-37) and Brian Kennedy (51-46) starred with battling performances in an 8-1 home win over Simms Cross A.

Alan Dunn (72-49) and Jason Sharp (78-32) were excellent early on for the Basil's who trail the Bede's by four points and must now beat them convincingly to pip them for second place.

Down but not yet out, Halton RBL (Chris Heffey 64-37 and Alan Taylor 73-47) accounted for RAOB A 6-3.

Ford A, already champions, went down 5-4 to St Basil's B for whom Paul Summerfield (71-33) and Terry Walsh (67-43) were in the mood.

Farnworth A saw their chances of second place suffer a further setback as Overton Memorial Hall's Chris Achilles (84-26) inspired a 5-4 victory for his side.

Tony Purcell and Phil Slavin also chipped in to seal an outstanding team display.

Stadium A won 8-1 thanks to Anthony Leather (61-36) and Eddie Corby (60-35).

Hough Green SC A continued their resurgence and look a threat for cup honours. Elliot Morgan (83-32) and John Gregory (85-38) spearheaded their efforts at Farn-worth B.
