MID Cheshire was out of the running in six of the eight races at the County Schools Cross Country Championships at Nantwich, on Saturday.

But the two senior events were dominated by the district.

Stephen Mitchell, who attends The Grange, Hartford, won the boys race, while Sir John Deane's College student Emma Coxon was pipped to the girls title.

The winner was Becky Ellis, who lived most of her life at Wincham and, like Emma and Stephen, is a member of Vale Royal Athletics Club. She was representing South Cheshire, however.

The only other runner representing Mid Cheshire to claim a first-four place was Hartford High's Winsford-based Laura Lambert.

She was third in the inters race won by Stevie Stockton (South Cheshire/ Coppenhall High) and they also happen to be clubmates at Vale Royal.

Glen George (North Cheshire/Helsby High) was a runner-up in his inters event. He also gets his out-of-school coaching with VRAC.

Teams will be picked from Saturday's results to run for Cheshire in next month's Inter County Championships and Mid Cheshire runners who made the top 10 at each level could be selected.
