HOCKEY: DEESIDE Ramblers' top performing side over the weekend were the men's seconds, who improved their promotion credentials with a 5-1 win against Bebington.
A hat-trick from Matt Harding, a penalty from Dick Heinrich and a super strike from Ed Lowe were too good for the visitors.
The first team were knocked off the top of the table by a sharp Brooklands side that punished un-characteristic errors by Ramblers' hitherto watertight defence. Jimmy Lewis scored both Ramblers goals in a 4-2 defeat.
Having sorted out their defence after early-season mishaps, Dave Linton's thirds played composed hockey to put their opponents, Bramhall, on the back foot. Ramblers' goals were scored by Chris Jones (3) and Guy Fennell (2).
The fourth team beat Arrowe Park 3-2. Their goals came courtesy of Keith Hindley, James Spencer and an own goal.
Deeside's Badgers recorded a superb 5-0 win against Oxton, who had previously been in great form themselves. Goalscorers were Phil Johnson (2), Will Wilson (2) and James Wilson.
The Beavers also enjoyed a comfortable win thanks to goals from Tom Fearnall, Ben Lamont, Mike Cooper and John Rodger, which helped them on their way to a 4-0 win against Bowdon.
Ramblers ladies' first team played out an eight-goal thriller against Whitley Bay, a late strike from Sarah Arden earning them a share of the spoils. The other scorers included Bex Clarke (2) and Amy Brickland.
The ladies' thirds never managed to settle in their match and were beaten 4-1 at home by Whitchurch. Sarah Ashworth scored Ramblers' goal and there was an encouraging debut from youngster Sally Meakins.
