PUPILS at Abbey Gate College have also served up success in table tennis.

Four Year 10 pupils – Alistair Marks, Josh Kresynak, James Faulkner and Joshua Mullock – triumphed in the Chester & District Championships.

Playing seeded singles matches, all the boys excelled. They showed a full range of attacking and defensive strategies to outwit and out-hit their opponents.

Alistair, as the number one seed, went unbeaten throughout the tournament as the quartet only lost one game all evening.

Chris Cutler, head of boys’ PE at the college, said: “The success is reward for regular practice at lunchtime and a good understanding of the rules and how to play under pressure.”

Abbey Gate’s Year 8 pupils also performed well, finishing as runners up two days earlier, with Charlie Dearling unbeaten throughout the tournament. William Parsons also won the majority of his games with able support from Nathan Spooner and Jack Dixon.
