ANGLING: WITH a large turnout for last Sunday's Connah's Quay AS open match on the golden nook length of the Shropshire Union canal at Waverton, Lee Saville excelled to take first.
On pole and bloodworm or joker, Lee found a massive bream of 4-15-0 which, with bits, brought him up to a straight 9-0-0. Ian Hughes was his nearest opposition, taking roach and gudgeon to weigh 3-9-0, clearing Bernie Leatherbarrow with 3-7-0 of the same.
Paul Keeley won the day in last Saturday's Chester Tackle Locker open match on the Golden Nook length of the Shropshire Union canal. His catch of roach weighing 8-11-0 put him clear of Dave Shaw on 7-15-12 of the same and Frank Holding having caught 5-10-4 of bream.
Ron Evans shared first with Norman Cadman in the Grosvenor Estate AC match on a private brook on the Eaton Estate. With Roach and Perch weighing 12-0, it put them ahead of John Moct on 6-0. Weights were up in last Sunday's Will Aston open match on the Egg Bridge length of the Shropshire Canal at Waverton. Stan Phillips topped on the day, boosted by 2-0-0 bream in his roach for a top of 8-3-4. Paul Edwards was runner-up with roach and skimmers to weigh 7-3-0, leading Keith Cummings with a roach-based 6-11-0.
Dave Artell topped in last Saturday's open match on the Hampton Springs fishery. Drawn on long island pool, Dave ended with carp and tench to weigh 26-12-0. Winner of their Sunday open match was Danny McLoughlan, having 39-8-0 of carp.
Paul Jones was up front in the Tuesday match of the Tarvin Sands AC fished on the Cheshire Fishery with 103-8-0 of carp - and his son Daniel took more carp to make 86-14-0. Winner on Thursday at the same venue was Sam Kennedy, taking 128-0-0 of carp to beat Paul Jones with 70-0-0 carp.
The Railway Barrow AC fished their float-only match on the river Severn at Gravel Hill. A mix of pike, roach and gudgeon to weigh 6-4-0 put Bob Ruscoe ahead of Trevor Roberts with chub and dace for 3-6-0 and Colin Owen having 1-8-0 of Dace.
John Sinkinson was the high-flyer in the first doubles match as the Airbus, Broughton AC fished on the top pool at the Lloyds Meadow fishery. His catch of carp clocked 28-6-0, to better Andy Amos having 24-4-0 of the same and Mark Mealing with similar for 20-5-0. The winning pair in this match was Andy Amos and Mark Mealing.
Jeff Williams excelled in last Saturday's Rake and Pike AC match on the marina length of the River Weaver. With roach weighing 12-14-0, he had the edge over Pete Griffiths with roach for 6-8-0 followed by Jeff Edge with 5-3-0 of roach.
Barry Carlson went home winner of the Lobol AC match on the River Weaver at Newbridge. On pole and red maggot, he took a mix of roach and perch to weigh 6-10-0, clearing Geoff Selby with a roach and his skimmers bag for 6-7-0, leading Dennis Brown with 5-8-0 of roach and perch.
The Malpas AC fished their final match of the year on Woodside pool. A 4-6-6 carp plus roach and smaller carp gave Gordon Coomber a top of 8-14-0 to beat his son, Simon, who took carp and roach for 4-10-0 ahead of Keith Arrowsmith on 2-5-0 of roach. Top junior was Kevin Arrowsmith, catching 1-8-0.
For the second time, no pike were caught in the Tarporley AA match on Cotebrook mill pool. To determine who should take their pike cup, a draw was carried out which went the way of Roy Garton.
Andy Jones was top of the day in the Mickle Trafford AC match on the Meadow fishery. The match was for the top brace with Andy's rainbows weighing 5-12-0, taken to a White Fritz. Rich and Roberts was runnerup, having rainbows for 5-0-0 to edge Bob Vickers into third place with 4-7-0. Their top fish of the day was a 3-5-0 rainbow by John Chamberlain.
Carl Roberts won the day in the Wednesday open match on the Burton Mere fishery, fished on their Willow pool. A carp catch weighing 35-5-0 put him in front of Robbie Woods with a carp and barbel mix for 26-4-0 and Barry Davies having 25-11-0.
Their Sunday match winner was Gary Bough. When they fished on Beech pool, his carp catch weighed 36-12-0, beating Simon Waller on 32-1-8 of carp and Robbie Woods on 21-1-0 carp and skimmers.
Fisheries News Lake Hill: Harry Hepper of Chester lured a 4-12-0 rainbow to a Toby Spinner and Ron Finch, also of Chester, fished a worm to take a 3-0-0 rainbow.
Meadow: Bill Jones from Ellesmere Port fished a black buzzer to take a 4-10-0 rainbow.
Sarn: Wirral's John Capwell lifted a brace of Rainbows weighing 6-8-0 to a black fritz. A Benison, also of Wirral, netted 11 rainbows to 3-0-0 to a damsel fly nymph.
Forest Hill: Ian Carr of the Wirral netted a 2-10-0 rainbow to a worm. Colin Spencer, Wirral, took a 2-12-0 Rainbow to the same bait.
Dearnford Hall: John Pendlebury of Chester recorded their Top Fish of the week an 8-9-0 rainbow taken to a gold-headed hapesear nymph. Charlie Small of Chester lured a 4-2-0 Brownie to an orange blob.
