A DOUBLE gold strike at the Cheshire County Championships saw Samantha Fraser maintain her excellent early season form.

Following her outstanding performance at the National Young Athletes match at Connah's Quay, Samantha triumphed on the track and also in the field for Halton & Frodsham Harriers.

After winning her 70m hurdles heat with a grade two standard time, she ran even quicker to clinch victory in Saturday's final. Her time of 11.99 seconds is a grade one time in the U13s group.

On the Sunday, Samantha won the gold medal for the high jump with a grade two clearance of 1.32m. Halton & Frodsham were also represented in the U13s events by Amelia Connor, Aoife Haymer and David Tomalin.

Highlight for Amelia was her silver-medal performance in the long jump at which she won the silver medal with a 3.92m leap - another grade three award.

She finished second in the 80m heats (11.87secs) but couldn't quite match the time in the final when finishing in a creditable seventh with 12.01.

Amelia had a good result in the 150m with a grade three time of 22.04 in the heats. She bettered this when it mattered for fourth place in the final where her 21.86 was another grade three.

Aoife Haymer ran a good 15.36 for fourth place in the 70m hurdles heats but narrowly failed to qualify for the final.

She is a newcomer to this event and determined to improve.

Aoife also competed in the 800m final and ran the two laps in a grade four time of 2 mins 49.31 for sixth place.

David Tomalin, carrying the banner for the boys, achieving personal bests in 100m, 200m and 800m.

He was second in his heat of the 200m in 31.75secs, improving on this in the final, in a closely contested finish with a sixth-place time of 30.71.

David continued his day of personal bests with a 10th place in the 800m (2:54.66).

In the 100m final, he clocked 14.75secs for a grade four fourth place. nHelsby High School pupil Lawrence Walker, representing Warrington AC, won the U17 men's 1,500m steeplechase in 4:47.62.
