SNOOKER: St Theresa's beat Eastham Home Guard in the Merseyside Club competition on Sunday without star player Wayne Amey, who played for the opposition.

He went on first against Robbie Hayes and made a flying start with a 37 break. Hayes pulled this back and with the colours would have lost by two. But having missed an easy yellow, he left the remaining balls to Amey to gain a 56-point win.

Barry Charker then played Home Guard's number two Barry Davies and put in a brilliant display of snooker. And with a break of 45, he went on to win by 78 and put Saints on course for a good win.

Mike Davies then went on against Phil Wooland who opened with a 54 break, but Davies stuck to the task and finished 45 down.

Joey Wynne was next on for Saints and he played a good game against Chris Saunders. He was 18 ahead with the last three balls on, which he potted to give Peter Sheppard the easy task of defending a 93-point lead after the 80 start handicap Saints were given.

Sheppard started with a 24 break to put the tie beyond doubt. They now travel to Formby for the next round.
