ANGLING: NORTHWICH AA Weaver opens had their best attendance so far when 43 anglers lined the banks on Saturday for a match dominated by Drennan North West and Saints rods, writes JOHN STUBBS.

It was a Saint who won the day, Derek Bennett fishing peg 465 on the oak tree stretch for 12-6-0 of skimmers and roach on the pole.

Steve Roberts (DNW) took 11-1-0 of roach on squat for second place, beating Garry Walley (S) 10-5-0 and Dave Edgeley (DNW) 9-9-0.

The field was down to 31 on Sunday and the weights dipped as well. Tricast Highfield match-man Dave Holland took the spoils with 7-12-0 worth of squat fish and in the frame were Mark Taylor 6-15-0 and Ken Powers 6-1-0.

Keith Smith fished his way to another series win on Sunday. He was third in the Rudheath-Bowling Green match on the Flash Fishery and, with one match remaining, is in an unassailable position. Jimmy Young, Terry Kettle, John Pryers and Terry Crosby are the contenders.

Sunday result was: Pryers 47-10-0, Young 12-10-0, Smith 10-2-0 and Kettle 6-5-0.

Ian Buckley was Meadow Bank AC's winner yet again on Saturday, his 8-3-0 being chased by Brian Lees 7-15-0 and Mike Smith 7-14-8.

D Anglers match on the Bottom Flash on Friday was won by myself with an estimated 50lb bag of bream up to 4lb off peg 36. Paul Harvey 7-14-0 and Ally McLeod 8-15-0 were section winners.

Winsford Veterans' result at the Red Lion: Brian Bill 9-12-0, Eric Gillett 9-2-0, Albert Lever 7-14-0, Ian Shaw 7-12-0.
