AN indoor league which has served Halton bowl-ers for 15 years has folded.

Kingsway Indoor League had seen its 2006-07 campaign disrupted because of the closure of its Widnes leisure centre base amid a legionella scare.

Organiser Ray Worthington has been forced to disband the winter competition after convening a meeting in an effort to save it.

He said: 'I feel very sad after all these years that it has got to close.

'I found I could no longer run it because of my eyesight and couldn't get anyone to take over, although we had people willing to do some of the jobs.

'We had also lost too much of the season and there was concern from the bowlers about the state of the equipment that we used.

'The mats were 15 years old and they'd had their day. You would have been talking about £6,000 to replace them.'

Worthington added: 'If anybody was to come forward to start it up again that would be great.'
