WEST Cheshire AC officials are hoping to see runners battling their way around the Chester Walls on Boxing Day.
The club is getting ready to stage the ever-popular Shell Chester Round The Walls Race, which this year has attracted the maximum 500 entries.
Weather conditions will dictate whether the 4.5-mile race, which incorporates two miles of the medieval city walls, will go ahead as planned around the original route for the first time since 2006 – or weather the action will have to be diverted because of ice.
No entries will be accepted on the day for the main Walls race, which gets under way at 11am, but entries will be taken on the day for a one-mile fun run around Chester Racecourse, which is scheduled to start at 10.15am.
Host club West Cheshire AC will be represented by 14 members, including Tom Booth, Brian Beattie, Max Woods, Neil Carter, Chris Rhodes, Neil McIntyre and Sacha Kendall-Woods.
Warrington AC duo Daniel Cliffe and Matthew Jackson, and Sale Harriers ace Ian Wetherall, who finished first, second and third respectively last year, will be attempting to repeat their achievements this time round.
Jac Goodall won the West Cheshire AC Christmas Cross Country Handicap at Whitby Park in Ellesmere Port on Sunday.
He clocked nine minutes six seconds to finish ahead of runner-up Paul Morrison (9:11) and Ellen McMahon (9:20) in third.
