A MEMBER of Tattenhall Runners was one of only 29 finishers in a testing five-day challenge.

Simon Ellis completed the Dragon’s Back Race from Conwy Castle in North Wales to Carreg Cennen Castle in South Wales last week.

The five-day, multi-stage event covered more than 200 miles with 50,000ft of climb. Only 29 of the 91 entrants made it past the finish line.

The race had only been run once before – in 1992. It took place over the ‘Dragon’s Back’ of mountain ranges in Wales and all competitors camped between the stages.

In view of the length of the race, the rocky, mountainous ground and the need to be able to navigate, applicants were vetted for suitability.

Simon was pleased to finish in a total time 56 hours and 31 minutes in 11th place overall.

In the final race of the Deeside Five-mile Off-Road Grand Prix series, Tattenhall Runners members battled it out with each other. Emma Baker finished in 33rd place (37:21), Mike Whiteside 34th (37:54) and Sara Atkinson 35th (38:48).

Over the series as a whole, Emma was the second lady, Mike was first V60, and Sara the leading lady V45.

In Warrington Half Marathon, husband and wife Rob and Sharon Eaton put in a fine showing.

Rob clocked a PB of 1:34, with Sharon completing the course in 1:54.
