COMEBACK king Paul Robertson turned in an impressive performance at the inaugural Delamere Dash trail race in Delamere Forest.

Just a few months after undergoing knee surgery, the Ellesmere Port Running Club member completed the six-mile off-road event in 37 minutes and 56 seconds to claim third place in the male vet 40 section.

First home for the Ellesmere Port club was Simon Jeffs in sixth place with a time 35:10. Mark Dodd also took part and clocked 39:20.

Nine members of EPRC lined up in the 3.4-mile Thornton Hough to Willaston New Year’s Day race.

Judging from the haul of prizes they collected, they did not seem to be suffering too badly from the previous night’s festivities.

Four club member secured top three finishes, the highest finisher being Alison Macdonald who was the first lady with Madeline Bird third. In the men’s race, Mike Burns was second senior male with Mathew Whitfield taking the bronze medal.

The winner was Chris Cooper who is emerging as a massive talent and will soon be shattering all his dad Ian’s personal bests. Other club members who took part were Brian Griffiths, John Jennings, John Cole and Nigel Crierie.

The club meets at Whitby Sports and Social Club on Tuesdays and Fridays at 6.45pm, to begin running at 7pm, and welcomes runners of all abilities.
