A TOTAL of eight Helsby Running Club members lined up for Sunday’s Chester Half Marathon, with Ed Halliwell smashing his old PB.

Halliwell set a new best time of one hour, 26 minutes and three seconds for 115th place. He was followed by Roy Gaskill (1.36:56 in 496th), Derek Gallagher (1.39:20 for 677th) and Tom De Jong (1.42:00). Lesley Feakes was first Helsby lady in 1.45:06 for 1,162nd and then came Clare Louise Miller (1.49:37) in 1,641st. Ben Williams was next in with 1.56:04, followed by Liz Nursall (2,479th in 2.01:04).

Saturday morning at the Delamere 5k park run highlighted the class in Helsby RC. Colin Bishop was first in a new PB in 17:47 and was swiftly followed by Colin Thompson, third in 18:11. First lady for Helsby was Carol Shaw (26th in 22:35), then Laura Baynham-Hughes (37th in 23:57), Helen Tudor (39th in 24:02) and Derek Gallagher (40th in 24:05). Rachel Arnold was 41st in 24:06, finishing in front of Alison Meakin (47th in 25:45) and Jo Farwell (50th in 26:00).

Saturday was also the Sandstone Trail Challenge, a run or walk along the Sandstone Trail. Gareth Boyd and Steve Riley were 36th and 37th. Ian Hilditch secured the new V70 age category record for 101st place.

Chris Baynham-Hughes was 179th out of 1,600 runners in the long distance ultra marathon, the Transvulcania. Jayne Joy competed in the Tarbes multi-terrain 10k in France.
