TEN members of Ellesmere Port Running Club ventured to mid-Wales for the 25th annual Race the Train event in Tywyn.

More than 1,000 runners battled against the stormy weather and treacherous conditions to complete the 14-mile off-road race, which follows the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back.

First home for EPRC was the in-form Graham Earlam in 31st place and second V50 in one hour, 35 minutes and 15 seconds. He was closely followed by Paul Robertson (75th, 1:38.38), Mark Dodd (86th, 1:39.59), Danny Legg (212th, 1:48.3), John Cole (240th, 1:51.52), Matt Whitfield (250th, 1:52.2), Jason Bennett (276th, 1:54.1), Alan Durston (385th, 2:00.5), Alison Hughes (422nd, 2:03.0), Brian Griffiths (562nd, 2:15.42).

The train came hurtling into the station in 1:47.59.

Three Ellesmere Port runners made the short journey to Warrington to compete in the Birchwood 10k.

First home for the club was Denis Duret in 42nd position posting a solid time of 36:35.

Next club member to cross the line was Jon Hawker in 45:43 and 266th position. Nor far behind her husband was Debbie Hawker in 490th place in a time 53:18.

David Webb of Leeds City AC finished first overall in a time of 29:52 while the ladies race was won by Jenny Blizard in 34:57.

Elsewhere, an in-form Chris Marshall produced a fine display in his third appearance at the Bramhall 5k race- running his best time this year.

Staged at Bramhall Park near Stockport, Marshall improved his fastest time of the year for the third consecutive week.

At the race consisting of two laps of pathway and off-road terrain, he crossed the line in a time of 19:09 to finish in seventh place.
