IMPRESSIVE displays by Alec Beaney and Nicola Bird saw them both take titles from the Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race.

West Cheshire AC runner Beaney produced a strong performance at the event which was organised by his club

He won the Cheshire under-20 junior men’s title and finished third in his age group after posting 28 minutes 26 seconds for 13th position overall at the Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton, Chester.

Bird, of Ellesmere Port Running Club, won the ladies title in a time of 30:11.

Laura Bestow, of West Cheshire AC, secured a silver medal in the Cheshire women’s championship after clocking 32:46 for 95th position in the overall race and claiming fourth spot in the women’s race.

West Cheshire’s Dan Harris continued his impressive form by taking 18th position in 28:50, followed by club colleagues Andrew Clague (30:06), Jeff Kettle (48th in 30:29), Russell Kirk (49th in 30:30), Max Woods (80th, 32:01) and Alan Bevan (85th, 32:23).

Julian Clarke was West Cheshire’s next man home in 107th place, running 33:15 ahead of Mark Gould (156th in 35:01) and club coach Neil Atkinson (158th in 35:02).

Jamie Loxam (Stockport Harriers) won the race in 26:23.

Fixtures this weekend include West Cheshire AC’s jumps and throws taster day at Cheshire Oaks High School, Ellesmere Port, on Saturday (10am-noon), and a jumps and throws meeting in Wavertree on Saturday.

West Cheshire members will travel to Deeside College, Connah’s Quay on Sunday for the opening round of the Cheshire Track and Field League, and the Whitley 10k takes place on Sunday.
